The Perks of Being a Wallflower

“And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.”

The quote above is from the famous novel and movie, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Somehow I've waited entirely WAY too long to see this! With Micah being sick, we've had hours upon hours to lay in bed and watch every Netflix movie, TV show and Vimeo video known to man. Tonight Micah downloaded this movie and it seriously has swooped it's way into our hearts. It truly such an inspiring and absolutely freaking awesome film. I'm sure the book would have the same effect as well. If you've never heard of this title, the movie reviews basically say:

Based on the best-selling novel by Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a modern classic that captures the dizzying highs and crushing lows of growing up. Starring Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller, The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a moving tale of love, loss, fear and hope-and the unforgettable friends that help us through life.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is the story of what it’s like to grow up in high school. More intimate than a diary, Charlie’s letters are singular and unique, hilarious and devastating. We may not know where he lives or to whom he is writing. All we know is the world he shares. Caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it puts him on a strange course through uncharted territory. The world of first dates and mixed tapes, family dramas and new friends. The world of sex, drugs, and music—when all one requires to feel infinite is that perfect song on that perfect drive.

This movie speaks volumes to me. The stories of these high school students are real life (and sadly common) situations that people encounter everyday. It's numbing knowing the statistics of students and young people who deal with self worth, depression and identity crisis in our generation. It's so important to know that we are so worth loving. We are important. We are special. If we loose our self value, we may as well loose ourselves. We all have a story and we all have a past but it's how we overcome and conquer that ultimately matters. You are more than you know so put a smile on, get your favorite mixed tape, your friends, go for a drive and enjoy yourself.

“So, I guess we are who we are for alot of reasons. And maybe we'll never know most of them. But even if we don't have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them.”
